- <p> In 1946, in David Lean's classic film of Dickens' Great
- Expectations, Jean Simmons played the young Estella to Martita
- Hunt's spurned Miss Havisham, the brooding harridan in a
- tattered wedding dress who teaches her ward to hate men. This
- July, in a startling reversal of roles, Simmons, 60, will play
- the spinster in a Disney Channel mini-series. "Oh, yes," says
- Simmons, "it was kind of weird. But when they started putting
- the makeup on, and the wig and the dress, you get into it."
- Simmons, who once suffered from agoraphobia, says she can
- identify a little with the reclusive Havisham. But that's as far
- as it goes.
